You’re Not Any Different
All right guys and gals. Today I’m going to let you in on something that every guy thinks makes him unique, and ladies, allow me to provide some insight on what nearly every guy is looking for in a lady, but won’t say (for reasons passing understanding). Let’s get started…
Guys – have you ever been walking down the street with a group of your buddies and passed a girl wearing a hooded sweatshirt and sweats, or possibly a loose tank and a pair of sweats and Nikes? Of course you have. And you’ve all turned your heads to watch her pass. “Damn.” “She was hot.” Some normal, expected comments from the group to be sure. But then you hear it. “You know, I may be different but, I prefer a girl in sweats as opposed to one all dolled up.”
And there it is. The one guy in the group who thinks he’s different by preferring a girl in her natural, comfortable self.
Well I’ve got news for you gentlemen: every single guy in the world prefers this in a girl. This is what you look for, a girl that can get up and go and look amazing. A girl that can run six miles and still look as good as she did when she started. So if you’re this guy, and I think all of us have been at some point, please turn to the group and apologize, because you’re not different. At all. You just thought you were.
And ladies, please, continue to dress like this. Wear sweats, the baggier the better. Hoodies with a homemade V cut into the collar, college mascot sweatpants wit the name printed vertically down one leg, stocking caps – it’s all on the table. Trust us, if the guy is worth anything in the long run, he’s going to choose to talk to you instead of the girl in the miniskirt and designer shades standing next to you in the line at Starbucks.
I really don’t know why this started or how it did. I don’t know why guys think they’re being ‘different’ and ‘unique’ by choosing the girl who can pull off an athletic, natural look. But furthermore, I can’t figure outt when it became a sense of pride, as if they were given this discerning eye that allowed them to see things in girls that other guys couldn’t. It’s a weird, bizarre phenomenon. But I know, dear readers, that you all have been a part of it and witnessed it firsthand.
So please, on the behalf of the Surly Birds, and the group of guys you’re with on Friday night, do us all a favor and enjoy the girl rockin’ her college hoodie in silence with everyone else. You’re all on the same page. There’s no need to get vocal about it.
Agree, dear readers? Has this happened to you? Or are you in fact one of the people I’m describing? What about you, ladies? Have you found you have better luck wearing the comfortable outfits as opposed to getting all dressed up? (Obviously you can’t pull this off at the clubs, but daylight hours are more what I’m speaking to.) We’d love to hear all your thoughts…

I prefer a girl in a dress always. No one should leave the house in sweatpants period! I wish we all still dressed like they did back in the day. I completely blame the baby boomer generation for this crap! It is not ok to leave the house in your dumb j. lo sweatsuit!
